I had a very good experience at Varney's in Aggieville. I had purchased a diploma frame online on a Friday and intended to pick it up on Saturday afternoon. When at the counter on Saturday, I was told that online orders are only processed M-F and I had placed the order after business hours.

Very good service! Had decently priced books and good customer service. It was a great place to pick up most specialized materials for all my classes.

I can't believe K-State allows this overpriced book store to handle their text book orders. Terrible service insanely high prices. They then buy the books back from the students at fraction of the price they sold them for. Even on used books they buy the books back at a third or LESS of their selling price. I advise students to look online in advance and get their books there. After comparing prices you'll never step foot in this store again. If you do, prepare to wait a good hour in line.

Too many people are blaming Varney's for what the publishers are doing to their own text books. Text books are expensive and yes you can get most for a slightly cheaper price online, but I have found that waiting until the first day of class and finding out which books I really need has saved me a bunch of money. The service people are a bit slow especially when responding to email and voice mail messages, but they are very nice and genuinely want to help you out. Their school supplies are more expensive than wal-mart, but they have a lot of stuff no one else does too.

I appreciate the problem solving character rather than just stating store policy and leaving it at that. Janice helped make Graduation Day extra special for my Magna Cum Laude Son!

Rather than turning me away, Janice offered to cancel that online order before it ever even charged against my account and resell me the same frame right there over the counter at the same price. VERY NICE!

Varney's is a monopoly. There are books that are REQUIRED for certain classes and are ONLY available at Varney's. I've spent well over $100 on books that were basically one big magazine, they could easily sell them for $50-$60 and still make money but they're greedy. They make it sound like you are able to get a good deal by selling back your books back to them after the semester, but they then lowball you on offers for the books, that's if they even MAKE an offer! Most of the time (from my personal experiences) they don't even buy back the books. Trust me, Amazon is your friend.
