Planet Beach

i will never go anywhere else to tan!

I wish I could give this place a zero star review but sadly that isn't possible. First off, I had a "free spa DAY" coupon, only to be told that it's only good for one treatment. In what world is a "spa day" 15 minutes laying on an uncomfortable bed that makes loud noises and doesn't help but actually worsens a bad back? I saw that there was a note that said "conditions may apply" on the coupon and I assumed that meant that there would be a limit to the treatments, maybe I would only get to try out 3 things (which would be fair and I would have given you maybe 4 stars). But nope. A spa day in your minds is simply ONE treatment. While the person working there constantly tries to get you to buy stuff and do other treatments without having clear prices listed. I'm a broke ass college student, I'm not going to say yes to a facial if I have no clue what the price is. I'm stressed. I have some back pain and some tension. This "spa" is just filled with stupid machines that don't work half the time (my "spa bed" had a "not responding" screen for a good 5 minutes and I had to wait while the girl fixed it) and employees who like to sell stuff. It's likely that no one there knows anything about spa treatments aside from what their little binder tells them. I spent more time sitting and listening to this employee try to sell me on treatments I don't need than I did actually "relaxing".

Awesome! More than just tanning!!

A customer service representative finally called after posting this on social media; however, the customer service agent was not of assistance and insisted that I contact my home Planet Beach once again in order to make the transfer easier. They also informed me that they would contact the two stores. I just sent another email to By Home Planet Beach. My e-mail and the response follows this comment. If anyone is wanting to obtain a Planet Beach Membership, just know that the process in transferring to another location is NOT easy and a very tiresome task. I'm going on 4 weeks of no tan and will have to pay an additional 2 months not having the ability to tan. The company is fragmented and not unified. Each spa director seems to be independent of the franchise.

awesome place! employees are very nice and considerate.

Best tanning location in town. I rarely tan anymore, but go in randomly when situations arise (not wanting to fry when visiting Vegas for instance). They are always helpful and engaging without giving the normal "fake" feeling you get from most chain stores. I'd recommend to anyone.

prices are kind of expensive-but well worth the few extra dollars for a clean and sanitary place that is so relaxing!

I wrote this on Planet Beach's Website: Here is the following responses as they arrived.

This is the e-mail you will receive that is NOT true. No one will contact you. At least no one contacted me.

Adam, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. A customer service representative will be in contact with you shortly. Can you please private message me your contact information?

Worst slap in the face was at the end, where when she asked if I wanted to schedule another appointment and I said no, so she gave me two more "free spa day" coupons to give to my friends. Lady, I wouldn't want my worst enemy going in that place. I'll stick with professionals from now on.

always super clean and work with you to find a membership that works for you!

I have been a member of Planet Beach since January 2014. As a member I do not feel like I've been appreciated. I attended the Planet Beach location in Manhattan, KS. Upon obtaining my membership, I informed the staff that I would be moving in May and would need to transfer my membership to Kansas City, KS/MO. I was informed that they had several locations in the KC Metro area and that would not be a problem, since they have plenty of Kansas State University students commuting between Manhattan and home in the KC Metro area. After prolonged delay in trying to transfer my membership and almost 4 weeks of no tanning, I've had a very negative experience and much time lost with Planet Beach. The director of the Planet Beach informed me to send her a e-mail to cancel the membership which would make the cancellation "legally-binding." I tried to transfer to the closest Planet Beach to Kansas City, which is the Olathe Planet Beach. The Olathe Planet Beach is advertised as a Planet Beach; however, will NOT, again will NOT accept transfers to their store. The Spa Director informed me that her spa is NOT part of the Planet Beach Franchise and could NOT transfer memberships. However, the Olathe location is still advertised online and on their store as a Planet Beach (False Advertising). The only Planet Beach left in the KC Metro Area is the Lee Summit Planet Beach, needless to say is 25 miles from the Metro area. After 3 days of calling and leaving messages for their spa director to see if she could transfer me, I finally received a response today. I could transfer to this location, but would need to pay a $49.95 "draft" fee. Plus at least an additional month on top of my membership. The spa director said, """""""They needed to get something out of me, since they would be accepting the transfer.""""""""""" Like an additional $49.95 "draft" fee wasn't enough. Needless to say, I've been without a tan for almost 4-weeks and I'm still paying for membership fees for June and July when I will not be utilizing their services. I've sent an a complaint on the Planet Beach website and haven't received a response yet. I will be sending in another complaint. As spa's continue to grow, I thought about opening a Planet Beach location within the Kansas City area. This would allow "college" students would are a majority of the Manhattan, KS, Planet Beach location the ability to tan within the school year and transfer memberships during the summer. Manhattan, KS, just opened up a Sun Tan City with reasonable rates and easy transfers with locations in Kansas City. Needless to say, I have not been pleased with my experience and hope that this can be resolved.
